Faculty

In addition to the regular roster of faculty at Pacific School of Religion (PSR) and other member schools of the Graduate Theological Union, PSR secures the talent and services of writers, scholars and teachers from around the country to teach courses that fulfill requirements for the Certificate. The following is a representative list of those teachers (check the latest GTU course schedule or this website for the most current list of courses being offered).

Donna E. Allen earned her Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and currently serves as the founding pastor of New Revelation Community Church in Oakland, California and as the Coordinator of the African American Roundtable at the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry.

Mary Hunt earned her Ph.D. in feminist liberation theology from the Graduate Theological Union and is the co-founder and co-director of WATER (Women's Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual) located in Silver Spring, Maryland, and is the author of "Fierce Tenderness: A Feminist Theology of Friendship."

Jay Emerson Johnson earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union and serves as Senior Director, Academic Research and Resources, for the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry. He is also adjunct faculty at Pacific School of Religion and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific and a member of the Core Doctoral Faculty of the Graduate Theological Union.

Mark D. Jordan earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas and taught at the University of Notre Dame before his current position as Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Religion at Emory University. His books include "The Silence of Sodom: Homosexuality and Modern Catholicism" and "Blessing Same-Sex Unions: The Perils of Queer Romance and the Confusions of Christian Marriage."

Timothy Koch earned his Ph.D. from Boston University and is currently pastor of New Life Metropolitan Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is currently finishing his first book, "Through Eros to Agape: The Radical Embodiment of Faith."

David J. Kundtz earned his doctorate of science and theology in pastoral psychology from the San Francisco Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union. For many years a practicing psychotherapist, he is also the author of several books, including "Stopping: How to Be Still When You Have to Keep Going" and is working with Bernard Schlager on a book dealing with pastoral care in LGBTQ communities.

Alvan Quamina earned his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, and is finishing his doctorate in non-profit management. From 2003 to 2007 he served as the Managing Director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry.

Lydia Sausa earned her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is a lecturer in the San Francisco State University Human Sexuality Studies Program. She is a widely sought-after teacher, workshop leader and lecturer in the field of human sexuality.

Bernard Schlager earned his Ph.D. from Yale University and has taught courses in the history of Christianity in a variety of institutions. He is the Deputy Director and Development Director at the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry.

Ken Stone earned his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and is Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible at Chicago Theological Seminary. He is the author, most recently, of "Practicing Safer Text: Food, Sex, and Biblical Interpretation in Queer Perspective."
