Turning a Sermon into a Soundbite: Media Training

April 29, 2010 at 6:00pm to 9:00pm

The Bay Area Coalition of Welcoming Congregations is pleased to host two media training sessions for faith leaders eager to learn how to communicate their faith to the media. This is an introductory session; an advanced training session is offered on the next day, from 9:00am to 12:00 Noon. Both session are on the PSR Campus, Mudd Building Room 102.

Participants will:

  • Frame their message or issue in a way that is compelling to the general public;
  • Get the ABC's on how to reduce their words into a sound bite that is "catchy" and that news outlets like to show or print;
  • Learn how to have a sound bite in your back pocket for those unexpected "microphone in the face moments";
  • Gain effective tips on how to get the media to cover your events;
  • Earn .5 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) and have the opportunity to do additional work to earn a full credit;
  • Have the opportunity to practice their new skills;
  • The advanced training includes in-depth practice on interviewing skills and press release writing.

The three (3) hour sessions will be open to 20 people per session. You may attend both of the two dates offered. If you are interested in participating, please reply to Roland Stringfellow with the date(s) you would like to attend. This is a "first come, first served" opportunity. You will be notified by email of your acceptance or wait list status.
