AART Blog: Tongues Untied
Tongues Untied is a blogging project of the CLGS African American Roundtable for LGBTQQI people of African descent. The blog's name derives from Marlon Riggs' 1989 semi-documentary film by the same name. The film blended documentary footage with personal account and fiction in an attempt to depict the specificity of black gay identity. Riggs was an outspoken African American gay rights activist, poet, educator, and filmmaker. In 2006 Riggs was inducted into the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association Hall of Fame. In 1994 he died from AIDS-related illness. In his memory the objective of this blog is to lift up our voices on issues of importance to us as a community.
