Gender, Sexuality and the Bible (BS-2328)
Instructor: Sean Burke
This course will explore texts from both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament utilizing contemporary theories from the fields of gender and sexuality studies. Format: Lecture and discussion. Evaluation: Exegetical paper; two short book reviews; on-line discussion. [Graduate-level intro course in either Hebrew Bible or New Testament; 20 max enrollment; Auditors with permission of Faculty]
Queer Thea/ologies and Beyond (STHR-4570)

This course examines Transgender, Bisexual, Intersex, Queer, Lesbian, Gay, and/or Straight(!) thea/ologies within their multicultural and interreligious contexts. Critical analysis (queer, post-colonial, feminist, womanist, disability, class and race theories) will inform our investigation of experience, identity, community, history, economics, sex and relational configurations as thea/ological themes related to ethics, ecclesiology, tradition, eschatology, scripture, liturgy, soteriology, and images of God. Theory, story, poetry, film, art, music, ritual and personal vignettes will function as texts in this multi-sensual class. In addition to extensive reading, class participation, and a ritual, students will complete a final presentation consisting of a film, sermon, curricular development program, poetry collection or performance art piece. Research papers will also be accepted. [15 max enrollment; Auditors excluded]
