Enrollment Options & Costs

Certificate in Sexuality and Religion

The Certificate in Sexuality and Religion (CSR) can be earned in combination with another degree program at PSR or as a stand-alone academic program. In either case, financial aid is available and several different scenarios are possible for enrolling in and completing the CSR. These scenarios are explained below and divided into the joint-degree option and the stand-alone option. Each of these scenarios may vary in any given year depending on the availability of courses, either on-campus or online.

While we encourage students to enroll and complete the full certificate program, some may wish to take only a few courses. Non-PSR students may do this by applying for Special Student Status. For more details, visit the Application & Registration page.

Joint Degree Program

Students may combine the CSR with the M.Div., the M.T.S., the M.A. or the D.Min. degree. Twelve (12) credit hours may be shared between the two programs (the CSR Coordinator must approve the specific courses to be shared). This leaves nine (9) additional credit hours required for completing the CSR. The following possible scenarios for completing the CSR in a joint-degree program and the costs attached to each are meant as illustrative only. Please contact the PSR Admissions Office for more details.

Financial Aid

PSR financial aid is available for up to 4 years of study when enrolled jointly in the CSR and M.Div. programs and up to 3 years of study when enrolled jointly in the CSR and either the M.T.S., M.A. or D.Min. degree programs.

PSR financial aid provides for need-based scholarships ranging from 32% to 60% of tuition costs. The costs below assume an average of 47% financial aid and will vary depending on each individual student's circumstances.

Joint Program, Scenario 1
1 Intersession Term (2 courses)
1 Summer Session (4 courses)

In this example, the only additional cost would be for the summer session courses, approximately $1,556 depending on the actual level of financial aid.

Joint Program, Scenario 2
1 Academic Year

In this example, completing the additional nine credit hours within one academic year would require: 2 fall semester courses (either online or on campus); 2 intersession courses; and 2 spring semester courses (either online or on campus) and would not require any additional cost beyond the tuition already paid for the other degree program.

Stand-Alone Program

As with any other degree or certificate program at PSR, students may apply for the CSR as a stand-alone program, which would require twenty-one (21) credit hours. The CSR is designed to be as flexible as possible so as to accommodate long-distance learners and commuters as well as residential students. We do not, however, anticipate making the CSR program available entirely online. The scenarios below for the stand-alone program are further divided into long-distance options and a residential/commuter option.

Long-Distance Learning:

Long-Distance, Scenario 1
1 Academic Year
2 Summer Sessions

This scenario would require traveling to Berkeley three times to complete eight (8) summer session and two (2) intersession (January Term) courses. The remaining six (6) credit hours would be fulfilled through online courses. The total tuition cost for this stand-alone program is approximately $5,898, depending on the level of financial aid awarded.

Long Distance, Scenario 2
2 Academic Years
1 Summer Session

This scenario would require traveling to Berkeley two times to complete four (4) summer session and two (2) intersession (January Term) courses. The remaining twelve (12) credit hours would be fulfilled through online courses. The total tuition cost of this stand-alone program is approximately $6,199, depending on the level of financial aid awarded.

Residential or Commuter:

Residential/Commuter Scenario
1 Academic Year
1 Summer Session

This scenario involves taking two (2) courses, either online or on campus in each of the three terms in an academic year and four (4) summer session courses. The total tuition cost of this stand-alone program is approximately $6,199, depending on the level of financial aid awarded.
