Teaching-Learning Project
The goal of the Teaching-Learning Project is to develop a series of educational ventures that will equip seminarians, clergy, and laity to assist congregations and local communities in talking about issues related to sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
The three stages of the Teaching-Learning Project include:
Stage One: Focused Courses within the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) and the Pacific School of Religion (PSR) Context
This stage of the Teaching-Learning Project is an ongoing process of encouraging a richer offering of courses related to sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity within the GTU community. Examples of courses that have been offered are "Teaching the Bible and Sexuality in Communities" and "Homosexuality and the Christian Tradition."
Revised versions of such courses will move to online availability with the increased expansion of this website. Once established online, these courses will be available to seminarians worldwide whose schools do not offer courses in this field of study.

Stage Two: Certificate in Sexuality and Religion
At the heart of stage two is the creation of a special certification program in sexuality and religion. This certificate program is now in existence, the first classes being offered in the summer of 2003.
This series of academic courses, taught in the evenings or in intensive sessions, are available to clergy, current seminarians, or others interested in working in faith communities or institutions where expertise in sexuality issues is needed.
While this certificate program is initially offered within the GTU/PSR context, it is designed in such a way that allows us to take it around the country to those congregations or communities committed to education and dialogue concerning issues of sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Stage Three: Speaker's Bureau
Stage three of the Teaching-Learning Project focuses on the development of a speaker's bureau comprised of individuals who have participated in stage one or stage two, and who would be available to conduct workshops or training in local congregations or community settings. We believe their knowledge and ease in talking about sexuality issues would be crucial to the successful journey of a faith community in moving to a more respectful stance toward LGBT people.
